Ooh, Something Shiny!

I'm metallic(a), man! Again, another gloomy day in NYC but hopefully the day will not be such a chick and go back and forth on what it wants to do. Thank goodness I'm listening to "Cat Daddy" while writing my poetic prose this morning, inspiration I tell ya. Today is a lesson in mixing pattern on pattern that one would initially think don't necessarily go together. But alas, I found a way to do it! Let's discuss.

Yes, the chignon is chillin' on my head today.

Nevermind the wall color, it's very unattractive. However, it does bounce the color-scheme of my outfit quite nicely! I guess what's going on here is a corporate meets menswear meets glitter meets skinny slacks, meets BOOM kind of ensemble that was thrown together at the eleventh hour of my morning. Additionally, I'm a fan of tucking in shirts. Is that bad? Does it reflect the amazingly awful "mom-pants" look? Sometimes, but I'm all legs and don't have a torso, so it creates one for me!

Never underestimate the power of rolled sleeves. I like to create multiple rolls of sleeves, if my clothing allows it. Add a shiny object, such as a watch, cuff, or multitude of bracelets to create some dimension. The grandpa-watch worked well with the theme of the menswear-esque thang we're doing today.

SNAKESKIN. YES. I love snakeskin print anything. Get me a pair of painted-on snakeskin pants and I will rock that shit from morning til night. I seriously feel like a sassy cobra today, and there is nothing wrong with that. You may think this natural-colored snakeskin print doesn't mesh well with the upper half of my body, but if you take a closer look it's rather complimentary in the grander scheme of things. Both items include darker and lighter taupe-tones, interest to the eye, and almost geometric shapes. PLUS, snakeskin is a basic print, and can pretty much go with just about anything. Try it out!

Love the look? Here's a breakdown of my sassy cobra outfit: Oxford shirt: Anne Fontaine; Blazer: J.Crew; Pants: Banana Republic 'Mad Men' Collection; Shoes: Nine West; Watch: Michael Kors

Ciao!
